The lemur peering through the trees. The owl staring directly into Jeremy’s lens. Flying foxes gathered in the branches. A brilliantly colored Madagascar sunset moth. Each image captured by Jeremy LaZelle reveals another part of Madagascar’s extraordinary natural heritage, a reminder of just how much life this island holds.
One of the photos offers a glimpse behind the scenes at Camp Indri in Anjanaharibe-Sud Special Reserve, with Jeremy sharing a meal in the field with Wildlife Madagascar intern Elias Giesinger, co-founder Tojo Lytah Razafimahefa, and other members of the team — a quiet moment that shows the human side of the work behind every photograph.
But Jeremy’s photographs tell a larger story than wildlife alone. Thanks to the generosity of the Abraham Foundation, he is also documenting how Wildlife Madagascar works alongside local communities to provide training and develop sustainable opportunities connected to conservation.
The remarkable photograph from our Angavo–Mandrare site shows the enthusiasm surrounding our new community garden. An astounding 160 people signed up to participate, demonstrating how strongly the community has embraced this initiative.
